ben I love albums with themes. Touch and The Dirty Sample knock it out of the park. Long De-Vision is a song for our times. It seems like we as humans get easily divided. We need more unity. Favorite track: Long De-Vision.

about

Everyone knows Jaws is a fictional creation—a fisherman's tale, like the one that got away. Except it's YOU that got away, only so you can live to spread the legend. Whenever you dip your toe into veiled waters, that enormous, tumultuous, mythical creature can gnaw its way from the back of your mind to the forefront of your nightmares. You thought you were safe. You believed your surroundings were benevolent. You convinced yourself that you were in control. But, in less time than it takes you to gauge the water’s temperature, a shark can swallow you whole—or simply take a souvenir, like a leg or a forearm. Right now you may consider yourself the king of your block, the ruler of your people, the OG, or the G.O.A.T., but sharks live amongst us all, and they can smell your unease and taste your apprehension. Next time you tread into deep water, be aware of your surroundings because Touch & The Dirty Sample are on the hunt as Jawz.

Following up The Fly and The Thing, Jawz is the third collaboration between Edmonton triple threat Touch, whose contributions on these collab projects is as a cold blooded killer MC, and Calgary rapper-producer The Dirty Sample, who produces the albums and makes a guest vocal appearance each time as Apeface, his current MC alter ego. Their chemistry is undeniable, but these two veterans of the Alberta rap scene were already deadly legends on their own long before teaming up. Touch has been part of Edmonton’s hip hop scene since the early 90s, and as one third of Dangerous Goods Collective he was on their classic and singular project, On The Level, in 2001, plus another 8 solo albums, most either self-produced by alter ego Dusty Kraytz or conceptual collaborations with a single producer. The Dirty Sample started producing in 1998 to provide beats for his own raps, and has since released nearly 30 albums, including instrumental works, remix projects, and collaborations with the likes of Roc Marciano, Guilty Simpson, Myka 9, Kirby Dominant, Moka Only, D-Sisive, Merkules, Snak the Ripper, and many of your other favourite rappers. Together, Touch and The Dirty Sample are the hungry rap hybrid Jawz, turning the deep waters dangerous as they devour all challengers.
